KIRSTY MacCOLL
AN EMPTY BENCH IN SOHO SQUARE
(1979-2000)
Probably best known as the Female voice on the Pogues “Fairytale Of New York”, Kirsty was not just a fine singer in her own right, bit also a fine songwriter. Her debut single on Stiff in 1979 was later a big hit in the States for Tracey Ulman. Ironicly Kirsty’s biggest hits in her own right were covers of other folks songs, notably Billy Bragg’s “A New England”. An in demand session singer (Smiths, Wonderstuff, Big Country). As well as covering other peoples songs ( my favourite “Johnny Moped’s Darling Lets Have Another Baby), she has also left behind a fine collection of her own Songs.
Daughter of Folk legend Ewan MacColl and former wife of producer Steve Lillywhite (Pogues, U2, Talking Heads), she died whilst on Holiday in Mexico, hit by a speedboat in controversial circumstances. She had just overcome a period of writers block and stage fright and her career was just talking off again.

la vidéo de "There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis" (ouf!) est terrible. Dans le genre "un public comme ça, 'faut se le coltiner avec le sourire!". Impressionant comme ils font la gueule!
merci pour la découverte en tous cas ;)
Merci à TT car je ne connaissais pas non plus.
Great posts overall...but it's KIRSTY ..not Kristy...take care...Johannes
I've changed the "Kristy" in the text and be sure Aya will edit the cover ASAP.
The front cover has been modified in the post.
Here's the back cover without the "KRISTY" mistake :

Nice post, but there is nothing from Kite, her most brilliant album!
Nothing From "KITE" that surprises me. This was originally a two CD set, that featured songs from all her albums, b-sides and collaberations. But it was felt it was a wee bit too much, so i decided to edit it to a single CD. the original set had 3 or 4 songs from kite and without realising it I culled them all. What really shocks me as tha tI removed "Days" one of my favourite Kirsty songs and one of the best versions of a RAy Davies song you might hear. All I can say is i dropped the ball.

Every one has got to make choices. Fortunately, our baistophes are not definitive compilations, only a simple snapshot our own tastes of one artist at one moment. It may differ from one time to another.
However, feel free to rearrange your own compilation, we'll be glad to compare your selection with our's.
Indeed Ayah, my only regret is that I left "Days" of as it's a personal favourite.
I satnd by the rest of my choices.
Its could to "debate" these thing anyway.
